These chemicals are core ingredients in the manufacture of an exhaustive array of products. Products that
help safeguard our health, as vital components of more than 85% of all pharmaceutical products. Products

Olin Chlor Alkali Products is the world's fifth largest producer of chlorine, caustic soda and related products. A division of the Olin Corporation, Olin Chlor Alkali Products employs some 1000 people at four facilities located in New York, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. In addition, we operate a Solution Sodium Hydrosulfite plant in Brazil and a joint venture Chlor Alkali plant, Sunbelt, at our existing McIntosh, Alabama site.
Olin Chlor Alkali Products are vital
ingredients in the manufacture of a staggering variety of products that we all rely on as part of our modern
way of life. In fact, each time you read a newspaper, use bleach in your laundry, ride in a car, enjoy safe
drinking water or take aspirin to relieve a headache, you're benefiting from one or more of our products.
For example, chlorine, which we produce, is a vital ingredient in more than 85% of all pharmaceutical products.
Our products make PVC and other plastics possible, for applications ranging from everyday household objects to life-saving medical devices like intravenous tubing and transfusion bags. And, as you may already know, chlorine is used in water purification facilities worldwide.
The most
innovative enterprise in the history of the chlor alkali industry, Olin Chlor Alkali Products was the first
company to begin producing chlor alkali products commercially. Throughout the company's history, we’ve
been responsible for a long list of milestones and innovations in electrochemistry. Our "firsts" include:
- Development of the industry's first major technological breakthrough, the Castner mercury electrochemical cell
- Production of the first commercial electrolytic bleaching powder in the U.S.
- Construction of the then largest membrane electrochemical cell plant in North America in 1987
- The first and leading marketer of Solution Sodium Hydrosulfite in the US, South and Central America and Brazil
- Development and commercialization of the patented Echo™ process for the manufacture of solution sodium hydrosulfite
- First sale and shipment of liquid chlorine
